Abstract

The new architecture of the Middle East is in a process of forming. It cannot be stable, unless the necessary steps are taken towards resolving the Kurdish question. The stability of the Middle East and the Black Sea region is of strategic importance for Bulgaria and the EU. The Syrian civil war has allowed Turkish politicians and the military to build a buffer zone in northeastern Syria with a depth of 30-40 km. Turkey's real goal is, above all, to build a buffer zone between the Turkish border and Kurdish-populated areas. Ankara has been pursuing a strategy of repression and integration for decades and has achieved only a symbolic solution to the Kurdish issue, the same strategy with renewed vigor began to implement it again in 2015/2016, expanding it throughout the region.
