Politics & Security has been published since 2017 by the Academy of National and Information Security, Plovdiv, Bulgaria (until October 2025 — the Higher School of Security and Economics). The journal appears quarterly, with four issues per calendar year.
Language of Publication
From 2017 to 2020 the journal published articles predominantly in Bulgarian, with abstracts and metadata in English. Since 2021 the journal has published exclusively in English; all metadata, abstracts and keywords are provided in English.
Volume Numbering
The journal has used two numbering schemes over its history:
- 2017 — first half of 2024: one volume covered a full calendar year and contained four issues, numbered 1 to 4.
- From the third issue of 2024 onwards: each issue is assigned its own volume number, while the issue number continues to indicate the quarter within the calendar year (1 to 4).
Both schemes are reflected in the table below. Articles published under either scheme retain the volume and issue numbers under which they originally appeared; these are the numbers recorded in the DOI metadata deposited with Crossref.
Institutional History
By decision of the National Assembly of the Republic of Bulgaria of 2 October 2025 (State Gazette No. 82 of 7 October 2025), the founding institution — the Higher School of Security and Economics, Plovdiv — was renamed the Academy of National and Information Security. Issues published before that date carry the former name of the institution; the change of name did not affect the ownership, editorial policy or scope of the journal.

Indexing and Identifiers
The journal is registered under ISSN 2535-0358 (Print) and ISSN 2815-3324 (Online). Digital Object Identifiers are assigned to all issues and articles published from 2024 onwards and are deposited with Crossref under the prefix 10.54658. Articles published before that date were assigned identifiers through other registration services.
