The political strategy and purpose of the Bulgarian revolutionary central committee and the Gurgaian central revolutionary committee

Authors

Abstract

The study considers the succession and even the alternativeness of the political strategy and aim of the Bulgarian Revolutionary Central Committee (BRCC) and the Gyurgevo Revolutionary Central Committee (GRCC). It is shown that BRCC's political strategy is that of a revolt, whereas GRCC aims at organising insurgencies. While BRCC aims at achieving political independence relying on the Bulgarian people's force, GRCC aims at organising mass massacres of Bulgarians and Turks that would lead to the intervention of the Great Powers and to the independence of the Bulgarian land considering even the possibility for “enslavement” by the Austrian Empire. It is proved that the nature of the hostilities in April 1876 is not that of a revolt but of insurgencies.
